SCM Lifescience appointed its founder and chief science officer (CSO) Song Sun-uk as its new CEO, Monday.
Song served as the biotech firm's first CEO after he founded the company in 2014, but in 2018 SCM appointed Rhee BG to the position, placing Song as head of its research and development sector with the titles CSO and vice president.
But following Rhee's resignation to a personal matter, Song was reappointed as the firm's chief.
"The company plans to devise new business strategies, focusing on our R&D capability," Song said. "With an attitude of reinventing itself, the firm aims to raise shareholder value as well as achieve solid growth."
Song is a professor at Inha University School of Medicine and editor of the World Journal of Stem Cells. He founded SCM Lifescience in 2014, aiming to focus on stem cell research and production. Earning his Ph.D. in molecular biology from Johns Hopkins University in 1994, Song also worked as a research associate at Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School.
The company was successfully listed on the country's tech-heavy Kosdaq market last June, based on its accumulated experience in basic, clinical, and stem cell production research.
