What can we do about bullying?
What can we do about bullying?

Success of Mars mission
Mars 2020 is the latest, and in important ways most ambitious, of the space missions of the United States and a growing number of other nations. On Feb. 18, the roving vehicle Perseverance landed on the surface of Mars.

Hope in chaotic times
Hope in chaotic times
By Moonbin JeongMore than ever, the world economy is suffering from severe recession due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this situation, we must focus on the structural vulnerability of basic education systems in developing countries. I would like to first emphasize the destruction of the basic education system. In contrast to countries such as Korea with strong educational ...

Anchors aweigh
Anchors aweigh
“Stand, Navy, out to sea, fight our battle cry… Anchors aweigh…” The march song of the U.S. Navy, played by a brass band on the dock, vibrates in the air as the U.S. aircraft carrier Essex carrying Grumman Panther fighters was slowly pushed out of the dock by tug boats. Loneliness is part of humanity
Loneliness is part of humanity

If mortality is a part of the human condition, so it seems is the grief of the bereaved spouse who was left alone. I've never imagined loneliness could be so poignant, uncontrollab...

A beloved poet
A beloved poet
By Choe Chong-daeI personally am most inspired by a wide range of poetry, prose and essays written by Claudia Lee Hae-in, a Catholic nun and acclaimed poet. My interest in Lee's poetic world originated with Lee Sung-ku, one of my close colleagues who is a cousin of Lee Hae-in. He spoke to me on numerous occasions about Lee since the 1980s, and I actually had the pleasure of ...

Don't dismiss young people
Don't dismiss young people
While adults are adversely affected by the pandemic, the younger generation bears the brunt of the crisis. Navigating the stormy waters of life has gotten even more complicated. As a teacher, I know the terrible impact of the pandemic all too well. As flawed as it was, the pre-pandemic social order was relatively stable. That's no longer the case. There's only an illusion of ...
